FRANCESCA DOBSON - SENIOR ACCOUNT MANAGER
Francesca works with a number of clients, in the health & social care, transport, charity and leisure sectors.
Francesca has worked on several high profile and successful political campaigns, most recently working with Cancer Research UK to secure a Government U-turn on the introduction of standardised packaging of cigarettes to prevent young people from taking up smoking, and with the air travel industry to successfully scrap Air Passenger Duty for Children in the 2014 Autumn Statement. Francesca was also integral to Boost Bingo, a campaign that resulted in a bingo duty cut of 50% in the 2014 Budget, saving the industry £30m per year. In her daily role she is responsible for liaising with key political figures on client’s behalf, monitoring political developments and organising Parliamentary events, as well as helping to shape political and media strategies.
Francesca’s role also involves leading the PR strategy for a national charity, securing national and local positive print and broadcast coverage across the UK. She also provides crisis communications support to both care home and home care providers across the country, managing media enquiries and helping them protect their reputation. Her other media relations experience includes briefing clients ahead of regional and national media opportunities, selling in stories to international publications, and managing national press and industry press at events.
During the 2015 General Election, Francesca worked at CCHQ in the media monitoring unit, acting as the eyes and hears of the Conservative Party. She was also a key member of election campaigns across the country, including London and the North West.
Prior to working at PLMR, Francesca worked at a City-based Financial Services IT Consultancy and interned with a Member of the European Parliament in Brussels. She has an MSc in International Public Policy from UCL, a BA in Politics and International Relations from Royal Holloway, University of London, and is fluent in Spanish.
NATHAN HOLLOW - SENIOR ACCOUNT MANAGER
As a Senior Account Manager, Nathan provides media, reputation management, and public affairs advice to a range of organisations, with a particular focus on the health & social care sector. During his time at PLMR, Nathan has supported media, parliamentary and fundraising campaigns for a number of organisations working in the social care, charity, and life sciences sectors.
He has extensive experience of delivering high profile national print and broadcast coverage, including securing two national newspaper front pages. Nathan has supported clients to engage MPs and secure meaningful change, as well as devising social media strategies, supporting charity grant applications, and preparing successful national award entries.
Nathan was also seconded for two months to support mental health veteran’s charity Combat Stress in-house media team, gaining in-depth experience of the unique operational challenges third sector organisations face.
Prior to joining PLMR in 2011, Nathan worked in the Parliamentary office of Health Select Committee member Andrew George MP, gaining invaluable experience across health policy area. Prior to this he was the Campaign Manager for the ‘Yes to Fairer Votes’ campaign in Cornwall. In this role he was responsible for the strategic management of the referendum campaign across the county, often fronting the campaign on regional media including being interviewed for the South West Politics Show, BBC Radio Cornwall, Pirate FM, and Atlantic FM. He also regularly wrote for local and regional press, and was published in the Western Morning News, the West Briton and a number of other publications in the county.
In his personal life, Nathan is a member of the Liberal Democrat party and stood in the 2014 London Council Elections.
DAVID MADDEN – ACCOUNT DIRECTOR
David plays a key role in much of PLMR’s health & social care work, from devising campaign strategies, to liaising with sector specialist journalists, organising high-level meetings with senior politicians and managing crisis communications and reputation management issues.
Crisis management work has included working successfully with clients and media lawyers to minimise negative coverage in national press and television. PR and public affairs campaigns have included award-winning work for an international music label and government-level profile raising for a NYSE listed technology provider.
David has appeared on national television and radio, both on behalf of clients and for PLMR. He is a regular contributor of articles to the media and was recently published in Total Politics and Healthcare Business. Articles and letters drafted for clients have appeared in national broadsheets including the Times and the Guardian.
In addition to work on our core public affairs and media relations accounts David leads the company’s growing planning practice. With over 15 years’ experience in planning lobbying, David’s work has taken him across the length and breadth of the country, primarily working with health clients.
MIKE RAMSDEN - HEAD OF BROADCAST
Mike Ramsden brings 18 years experience of broadcast journalism to PLMR. He was the presenter of BBC London News on BBC1 for ten years, reaching audiences of up to 1.5 million people with live broadcasts from the studios of New Broadcasting House in central London. He’s reported on the build-up to the 2012 Olympic Games, the 7/7 attacks and their aftermath, and filmed and edited a series of reports on a London charity helping the rural poor in Kenya.
Politics has featured heavily in Mike’s career, following the stories that made up a dozen local elections, six general elections and two London Mayoral elections, as well as presenting the London part of The Politics Show on Sundays on BBC1. He’s worked in newsrooms at the BBC News Channel, at Newsbeat on BBC Radio 1, and in BBC local radio in the English midlands.
He’s a skilled live interviewer, who can help prepare our clients for the toughest broadcast interviews. His experience as a presenter and reporter mean he has a ‘gut feel’ for what news editors want, helping our clients get maximum positive coverage across all media channels.
In September of 2011, Mike moved into corporate communications at RBS Insurance, Britain’s biggest general insurer, applying his skills to a period of immense change for the organization. He presented and produced regular video interviews with the CEO and CFO, and helped create the messaging that engaged 15,000 employees with the new identity and culture of Direct Line Group, the company that was created as the insurance business separated from RBS group.
ROBIN DYET - SCOTLAND MANAGER
Robin is Scotland Manager for PLMR, based full-time in our Edinburgh office. He supports clients across a range of sectors, including health and social care, veterans’ issues, energy, professional services and aviation. He has extensive experience of working in both Holyrood and Westminster in a range of roles, including as a Senior Researcher for over 100 MPs and as a media advisor to the Scottish Shadow Cabinet.
Prior to starting with PLMR, Robin worked as a Public Affairs Officer for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) – the largest regulatory body in the world. As part of the Communications Team he was responsible for developing key messaging, effectively communicating with a wide range of target stakeholders across the health sector, and influencing government policy. Supporting the NMC’s engagement with a variety of regulatory, industry, and political organisations, combined with his work for a range of other health clients, has enabled him to develop an excellent understanding of the healthcare environment in Scotland and across the UK.
Robin has undertaken a number of PR, public affairs, and communications campaigns for national and international charities, and also worked on the successful campaign to secure Scotland’s status as one of the world’s first ‘Fair Trade Nations’.
JO-ANNE NADLER - CONSULTANT
Jo-Anne Nadler is public affairs practitioner with expertise drawn from working in and around Westminster since the 1990’s. She has been on both sides of political communications, first as a party insider, handling media for the Conservative Party during John Major’s leadership before moving into journalism as a political reporter for BBC Westminster and later in print as an author of successful political books. She frequently appears on national television and radio commentating on political affairs and communications. In recent years Jo-Anne has worked as a public affairs consultant, for agencies and with her own clients.
As a councillor in the London Borough of Wandsworth, until 2014, Jo-Anne gained invaluable insight into the planning process in the capital’s most high profile regeneration project. She developed that that experience to build a practice specialism in planning and associated development issues.
Jo-Anne has also worked on successful national campaigns achieving policy concessions for a charity consortium and an innovative provider of care homes. She has direct experience of working within the private healthcare sector as a media advisor to the Independent Healthcare Association during its negotiations with the first Blair government leading to the Concordat of 2000.
