PLMR HIRES TOP BORIS ADVISER

After another year of strong growth, PLMR is delighted to announce that Joe Mitton will be joining our top team, as of next week.

Joe Mitton comes to PLMR from London’s City Hall, where he was Adviser to Boris Johnson on Business and Science until the recent Mayoral elections.

Joe joined City Hall in May 2010 as Special Adviser to Kit Malthouse, who was at the time Deputy Mayor for Policing. Joe’s time working with Kit on the policing brief – one of City Hall’s largest and most demanding portfolios – included the transition of police oversight from the old Metropolitan Police Authority to the newly created Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC), the London Riots of 2011 and the preparations for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Joe continued to work with Kit when he assumed responsibility for the expanded ‘Business and Enterprise’ portfolio at City Hall in 2012. The portfolio included responsibility for dealing with London’s business organisations, inward investment, pan-London regeneration and infrastructure investments and high-profile growth sectors as well as liaison with the City of London Corporation, the London Business Advisory Council and the London Enterprise Panel.

When Kit stood down from his post as Deputy Mayor in early 2015 to focus on his efforts to become the Conservative MP for North West Hampshire, Joe was promoted to take over many of Kit’s responsibilities, with an increased emphasis on science, digital and the knowledge economy. In this role as Special Adviser for Business and Science Joe advised Boris directly.  Since the Mayoral election Joe has been seconded to Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation, where he has been a strategic adviser for the UK’s largest regeneration project.

Before entering City Hall, Joe worked in the Australian Civil Service.  He went on to be appointed to the Australian High Commission in London, where he represented the Australian government on trade and regulatory issues in the UK and the European Commission, including negotiating on its behalf at the G20 summit.

Joe will join PLMR as a Senior Consultant, further boosting PLMR’s London, infrastructure, corporate and City credentials.  Joe will also work with the team to develop PLMR’s emerging tech specialisms – the agency already works with award-winning EdTech brand Pobble, West Coast US ride sharing app Lyft and household name, Bosch.

Speaking about his appointment, Joe Mitton said:

“I am delighted to be joining the PLMR team.  It is a firm that understands London’s economy and government like no other.  PLMR is the best partner for high-growth tech, science, infrastructure and City firms and I am looking forward to working with all their clients, existing and new, to grab the opportunities in London and beyond.”

PLMR’s Managing Director, Kevin Craig, added:

“We are very excited to welcome Joe to PLMR.  He brings a wealth of relevant experience to our current clients and he has big ambitions to help us widen our reach in emerging sectors.

“Joe brings a hugely impressive network of contacts across Government, City Hall, media and business and I know that our clients, and the PLMR team, are really looking forward to working with him.”
