MY PLMR VOLUNTEERING DAY: BRAINWAVE’S LONDON SANTA-DASH

Ever since PLMR has existed it has donated 5% of its net profits to charity every year.

This year, the company introduced two wonderful initiatives: not only would each and every team member receive an extra day’s leave to use to volunteer for their favourite charity, but PLMR wold also donate £200 to that charity as well. As you can imagine, we were all really excited about this, and our attentions turned to which organisation we could assist.

I met Lauren Scott, Community Fundraiser at national Children’s charity, Brainwave, at a networking event, and absolutely loved hearing about the wonderful work that they do. After a few meetings and learning more about the organisation, I knew that I wanted Brainwave to be my chosen charity.

Every year in the UK, thousands of children are diagnosed with disabilities and additional needs. These are caused by anything from birth trauma, accidents, genetic conditions, chromosome abnormalities, or sometimes, for unknown reasons. Brainwave supports these children, who are living with physical, sensory, learning, cognitive and behavioural difficulties, to become as independent as they possibly can. Through their tailored exercise programmes, many have learnt to crawl, walk, talk and achieve milestones that their parents never believed possible.

As part of my volunteering day, I was delighted to work with the charity and help with a Christmas press announcement involving Las Iguanas, The Entertainer and Asda, and secured local media coverage around their South East Centre’s Christmas Party.

In addition to this, I was also pleased to volunteer at Brainwave’s annual fundraising for a ‘5k Santa Dash’ in London on 8th December. Hundreds of generous St. Nick’s took to the streets in the City of London to run on behalf of the charity, and the event was a huge success. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of all the Santa’s, Brainwave raised a fantastic total of £27,000 – their best ever annual total.

This was a wonderful experience, and I have made some great friends at the charity. I am now planning to give more of my time in 2016 to do whatever I can to help Brainwave raise its profile further, so that it can secure even more donations and support more children with disabilities and additional needs across the UK.

Thank you to PLMR for this amazing opportunity – I am incredibly grateful and am looking forward to supporting Brainwave further in the future.
