Life in Lambeth

We are very lucky at PLMR to have offices in such an enviable location. We are in Lambeth, a stone’s throw from Westminster, in the heart of a thriving community surrounded by other businesses, shops, families, schools, charities, and people: a real microcosm of urban living.

It is definitely possible to run a successful business which aims to maximize the good it can do for the people around them, and as a business we aim to support our local community as much as we can.  I know my colleagues certainly support our local deli on a daily basis (!), and we try to use other local business services as our preferred suppliers.

As is well recorded, we make charity donations on a large scale to the Springfield Community Flat nearby, which does critical work to regenerate a deprived and challenged part of Lambeth, but also on a smaller scale to local schools sponsoring stalls at summer fairs, and to colleagues and contacts who are raising money for causes they care about. We also try to give our time – en masse at Springfield Community Flat one day a year(gardening!), but as and when we can otherwise: just recently my colleague Ros Trinick spent a morning at Lambeth Academy doing mock interviews with young people, to give them experience of the working world.

We also have local organisations on our client list, including the fantastic Durand Academy which is doing such amazing work to improve the opportunities in education for local children.  And in the spirit of encouraging pride in Lambeth (to mirror our own!) we have this year sponsored a competition encouraging local children to write about their favourite place in Lambeth – the winner was a child from Clapham Manor School whose favourite place was the Brixton Recreation Centre and he got to be the mascot at a Fulham FC home game, which certainly made him feel special.  Half of my colleagues live in Lambeth and have the benefits of a very short commute!

This is an area that I have grown up in and seen change over the years – and it is massively rewarding to know that the influence we have as a local business in our industry is being used to maximize the benefits to the people around us.  Lambeth is a fantastic borough.  Come and visit us!
