I never wanted to go to university. I was too much of a home girl and I was impatient to get out into the world and start my career.
I had heard of apprenticeships, but I didn’t know what they entailed, or whether they provided opportunities in the sort of industries I was interested in. I knew that I wanted to do something creative (as I’d studied Media Studies and Theatre Studies at sixth form) and that I was keen to learn more about the world of marketing and social media. After finishing my A Levels, I did some research, and was surprised to see how many were on offer.
After a few weeks of searching, I came across the opportunity to do a full Digital Marketing Apprenticeship at PLMR. I went in for an interview, got the job, and I’ve never looked back.
During my year as an apprentice, I have learned all sorts of different skills including web design, search engine optimisation, blogging, content creation and social media management. I was even invited to travel up to Scotland to live stream a series of high-level husting events over Facebook Live for the General Election – reaching millions of voters.
I have been here for over a year now, and have been offered a permanent position as a Digital Marketing Executive. I am now an integral part of a growing team and have been given greater and greater responsibility as time has gone on.
I love working here, digital marketing is so much fun and not one day is the same; I think if I hadn’t chosen an apprenticeship I wouldn’t have known I could do this as a career. Having this experience has allowed me to gain more confidence and has opened my eyes to what I can do in the future.
